Kowan O’Keefe

Kowan is a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Maryland School of Public Policy, a Trudeau Scholar with the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation and a Doctoral Fellow with the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada. In addition to his doctoral studies, Kowan works at the University of Maryland Center for Global Sustainability on the Energy & Climate Team. 

His research interests in the area of climate change policy include integrated assessment modeling, net-zero emissions goals, carbon dioxide removal, and combustion toxicity. He is particularly interested in the intersection between modeling national decarbonization scenarios for Canada and the social and political drivers of climate change mitigation policy. 

Prior to joining the University of Maryland, Kowan attended Minot State University on a golf scholarship and was a two-time NCAA Division II Academic All-American and a finalist for the NCAA Division II Male Scholar Athlete of the Year Award. He has a B.A. in Chemistry and Mathematics from Minot State University and an M.Sc. in Chemistry from the University of Toronto.
