Our students get direct access to state government operations, where they build relationships and pave the way for a more efficient state.
In an effort to enhance and enrich the student experience, the Maryland Gateway Initiative (MGI) provides hands-on education on state government operations through research, internships and graduate assistantships. MGI allows the School to expand its programs, support, research and teaching on issues related to Maryland. Graduate students have interned in the Governor's Performance Improvement Office to conduct research in an evidence-based environment, identify and recommend metrics to track agency and department progress and analyze the expectations of policymakers and constituents. Completing in-depth, hands-on research allows the students to develop and recommend innovative ways to improve government services.
