Emma MacCallum contributes to the Do Good Institute team as a Research Assistant. She works with faculty from the School of Public Policy to produce research on the current state and future of the social impact sector. She also supports the design and implementation of methodologies that collect data on and evaluate DGI programs and academic partnerships. Through these projects, MacCallum contributes to a better understanding of the social impact sector and how we “do good” in the communities in which we exist, while also helping the institute develop and grow as an effective avenue for supporting students’ philanthropic endeavors.

Prior to joining the Do Good Institute, MacCallum worked as a programming and research assistant in the Latin American and Africana Studies department at Colgate University. In this role, she connected with student groups, motivated student research projects and provided programming and scholarly support to faculty.

In 2021, MacCallum completed her Bachelor of Arts at Colby College with a dual degree in political science and Latin American studies. During her undergraduate career, MacCallum spent time in Havana, Cuba studying LGBTQ+ community organizing with the organization Casa de las Americas. As an intern at the Colibri Center for Human Rights, she executed an ethnographic project on the impact of support groups and community building on the experiences of undocumented immigrants in the United States.

Currently, MacCallum is taking graduate classes in public policy and hopes to pursue a higher degree in the future. She lives in DC and enjoys spin classes, painting and volunteering with immigrant organizations and cat shelters.
