The SDGs Need a Subjective Well-Being Reality Check

Back to All Publications

Abstract

As United Nations Member States negotiate post-2030 development frameworks, an important empirical question is whether progress on the Sustainable Development Goals is also reflected in subjective well-being. Across 42 countries and more than 100 indicators per country, the indicators for Sustainable Development Goals correlate with life evaluations in levels, but show little consistent association with year-to-year changes in life evaluations. This divergence raises questions for post-2030 indicator design.
