New Collaboration Will Focus Research Efforts Toward Critical
National and International Cybersecurity Objectives
COLLEGE PARK, Md., October 26, 2017 -- CIS (Center for Internet Security) and the University of Maryland School of Public Policy (SPP)today announced an agreement establishing a multidisciplinary partnership for cybersecurity research.
The new partnership will see CIS and SPP develop and pursue joint research initiatives and projects that leverage each other’s strengths and infrastructure; increase inter-institutional engagement of research centers, faculty, staff and students; share specialized research facilities and equipment; enhance the availability of technical training and job-related continuing education; develop curriculum for joint activities; and create opportunities for student engagement through internships, graduate assistantships and experiential learning.
“This collaboration brings together CIS’ global community of IT practitioners who develop and support the CIS Benchmarks and CIS Controls with UMD’s vast research and academic resources, enabling us to address today’s most pressing cybersecurity challenges in a comprehensive way,” said Curt Dukes, CIS Executive Vice President, and General Manager, Security Best Practices Automation Group.
School of Public Policy Dean Robert C. Orr said, “Bringing together the right partners in government, the private and nonprofit sectors, and academic institutions is critical to prepare ourselves for the cyber century. This partnership is the embodiment of the action we need to bridge the technical and policy worlds to have a real impact on people and organizations.”
