At this event, CGS Research Associate Xinyue Li, will present recent research on China's greenhouse gas emission and energy control to achieve the country's decarbonization goals.

Abstract: Understanding China’s shift from energy-based to emission-focused controls is critical for guiding its domestic climate policy and informing global climate governance. While energy intensity targets have driven past progress, their limitations in capturing regional disparities and recent clean energy deployment have become increasingly evident. This study jointly analyzes provincial patterns in both emission and energy control. By doing so, it offers insights for more nuanced policy and target setting during China’s shift from an energy-focused to an emissions-focused framework, aligning provincial targets with national goals while maintaining realistic decarbonization pathways across regions.
