SPP and the US-UK Fulbright Commission Forge Partnership to Cultivate Global Policy Leaders

The US-UK Fulbright Commission has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to partner with the University of Maryland School of Public Policy. This partnership aims to recruit UK students to pursue their master's degree at the School of Public Policy, encouraging collaboration and research among top scholars and fostering a vibrant international academic community.

The Fulbright Commission is renowned for its dedication to educational excellence and cultural diplomacy, offering unparalleled opportunities for transcontinental scholarship and intellectual enrichment. Through its commitment to fostering global education and cross-cultural exchange, Fulbright Awards provide students with guidance and experiential learning opportunities, enabling them to explore new horizons and make a meaningful impact on the world. This partnership opens doors for UK students to experience a top-notch education and cutting-edge research opportunities at one of the world's foremost public research universities. 

Executive Director at US-UK Fulbright Commission Maria Balinska MPM ’84 shared, “Through international exchange and the creation of partnerships and communities that bring together the minds and energy of people from all cultures and backgrounds, the US-UK Fulbright Commission is working to make a contribution towards solving global challenges. Our exciting new collaboration with the University of Maryland School of Public Policy is a crucial part of these aspirations.”

Through this partnership, the School of Public Policy will combine its commitment to excellence in policy education with Fulbright's international education expertise. The MOU signing represents a significant milestone in the academic partnership between Fulbright and the School of Public Policy, expected to yield valuable experiential learning opportunities and strengthen ties between international communities and policy practitioners. 

Speaking about the signing, School of Public Policy Dean Robert C. Orr said, “This partnership marks a significant step forward in cultivating a global network of policy leaders committed to driving innovation and championing the public good, and will further enhance the School’s mission to change the world.”

Together, this collaboration will nurture compassionate leaders, propel the advancement of knowledge and cultivate innovation in policy and governance. It will drive interdisciplinary research and champion the public good on a local, national and global scale.
