COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The University of Maryland School of Public Policy is pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Betty Duke as the Norman and Florence Brody Family Foundation Public Policy Forum Professor, effective immediately. The Brody Professorship was established through generous support from Norman and Florence Brody. The Brody professor organizes the Brody Public Policy Forum, which convenes renowned leaders, public policy experts and thought leaders to the School of Public Policy to promote discussion and awareness of topics of national and international significance. Following discussions with the Brody family and Professor Duke, the School has decided to focus the Brody efforts this year on the topic of leadership in fraught times. The School of Public Policy will be bringing leaders to speak with the School community about not just the times we are living in, but also about their approach to leadership in these times.

Duke has been on the faculty of the School of Public Policy since 2009. She joined the School after a distinguished career in federal service, including eight years as administrator of the Health Resources and Services Administration, a "safety net" within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services that provides health care for the underserved with more than 80 programs and a budget of seven billion dollars. She has twice been selected by School of Public Policy students as the commencement speaker, and is renowned within the School community as one of the most talented and dedicated teachers.

The School would like to thank Professor Douglas Besharov, who is completing his term as Brody Professor. Professor Besharov organized many outstanding Brody Forums over his tenure, and his dedicated service is appreciated.
