Students who graduate from the University of Maryland School of Public Policy are ready to change the world and achieve success in their desired career fields. Our graduates are competitive in all areas, including federal, state and local government; international, nonprofit and private sector organizations.
Because of our location outside of Washington, D.C., most students are able to complete several internships throughout the year, giving them valuable experience and connections to further their careers.
The SPP curriculum, paired with internship and experiential opportunities, prepares students to become competitive job candidates for a variety of positions and organizations. The programs at the School of Public Policy are uniquely designed to allow students to pivot across sectors.
In 2018, 35 percent of graduates entered the federal government workforce, 23 percent focused on careers in the nonprofit sector and 17 percent explored options in the private sector.
Our graduates have gone on to careers with employers such as the Advocacy Project, Federal Reserve Bank of the United States, Maryland Chamber of Commerce, Maryland Department of Budget and Management, Maryland General Assembly, Rand Corporation, U.S. Department of Defense, U.S. Government Accountability Office, U.S. Department of State, U.S. Department of Homeland Security Citizenship and Immigration Services and more.
