PhD Candidate Eyob Tekalegn Appointed Minister of National Planning Commission in Ethiopia

Pursuing a degree with the University of Maryland School of Public Policy can lead students into careers around the world in a wide range of career fields. 

Recently, PhD candidate Eyob Tekalegn was appointed a minister in charge of the National Planning Commission by Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed. Tekalegn will be the third official to serve in this position overseeing the National Planning Commission. 

After a career in public service, he earned a master’s degree in international policy from George Washington University and he is scheduled to defend his thesis at SPP in September 2018. 

Tekalegn previously served as a diplomat at the Ethiopian Embassy in the United States. He also worked as a director for SGI Frontier Capital, a private equity firm.
