COLLEGE PARK, Md. — Congressman Mickey Edwards will deliver the University of Maryland School of Public Policy Winter 2018 Graduate Recognition Ceremony address on December 18.
Edwards was a member of Congress for 16 years, serving on the House Budget and Appropriations Committees and as a chairman of the House Republican Policy Committee. After leaving Congress, he taught for 11 years at Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government. He then moved on first to Princeton’s Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs, and then to Aspen Institute as vice president, where he directs a bipartisan fellowship for elected public officials.
He is a board member of the Constitution Project and the Project on Government Oversight. He was a member of the American Bar Association’s select task force on the use of presidential signing statements and the American Society of International Law’s task force on the International Criminal Court. He also chaired policy task forces for both the Brookings Institution and the Council on Foreign Relations. He has been elected a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
Edwards has degrees in both law and journalism. He has been a regular political columnist for the Los Angeles Times and Chicago Tribune and had his own weekly commentary on NPR’s “All Things Considered.” Edwards is also the author of four books, including “The Parties Versus The People: How to Turn Republicans and Democrats Into Americans.”
The University of Maryland School of Public Policy Winter Graduate Recognition Ceremony will take place on Tuesday, December 18, at 1 p.m. in Tyser Auditorium, 1212 Van Munching Hall on the University of Maryland, College Park campus.
