The IDEV Council, in partnership with SEEC and the ISEP Council, will be hosting a discussion on The Role of the Western Savior Complex in International Development.

The goal of this event is to have a peer-led, loosely facilitated conversation about the complex role of western saviorism in the field of international development. We will be discussing some of the moral and ethical dilemmas in international development. We will also talk about policies and programs that aim to address these issues through culturally sensitive, racially just, and sustainable means.

We will use the documentary "Poverty, Inc." as the basis for our discussion. We will host an optional viewing of the documentary from 6:00-8:00 PM on Thursday, November 5th on Zoom. We will hold the official event on Tuesday, November 10th, from 12:00-1:15 PM also on Zoom. Viewing of the documentary is not required to attend the event. You can also watch it on your own for free here. It is also available on Amazon Prime.
