New climate momentum builds in the US: An assessment of where we are, where we’re going, and where we could be in 2030

Back to All Events

At Tsinghua University in Beijing, China, Director Nate Hultman will discuss climate action in the United States since the 2016 presidential election to now, and post-COP25. Since the current administration’s announcement to withdraw the U.S. from the Paris Agreement, a broad coalition of subnational actors from states, cities, businesses, universities, healthcare organizations, faith-based organizations, and more have committed to drive down their greenhouse gas emissions, consistent with the goals of the Paris Agreement. Since then, the America’s Pledge initiative has analyzed the impact and potential of these actors to reach the U.S. Paris target.

Launched at COP25, the results of America's Pledge latest analysis, led by Hultman and CGS, describe what these actors could achieve in 2030 with an enhanced set of activities, and in a scenario when a new administration re-engages with national-level action. Professor Hultman will discuss the analysis and results of the new report, Accelerating America’s Pledge, and update the Chinese community on the coalitions of actors that are driving forward progress on climate change in the U.S. and globally.
