The Maryland Civic Education Coalition is hosting its 3rd Annual Maryland Civic Education and Engagement Leadership Summit. Co-chaired by Lena Morreale Scott, director of the civic education and engagement initiative, the summit brings together youth, educators, and community partners from across the state of Maryland who love the idea of empowering youth and improving our communities.

Through interactive roundtable and breakout discussions,  attendees will explore what’s “working” and identify ways to address barriers to help strengthen civic engagement through civic education, learning and service-learning.

3:30 - 4:00 p.m.: Welcome and Introductory Remarks
4:05 - 5:10 p.m.: Roundtable Session I

  • Civics for All Ages: Civic Learning and Civic Engagement as a Life-long Journey
  • Civic Seals: Recognition Program for Students and Schools

5:15 - 5:40 p.m.: Youth Service and Civics Slam
5:45 - 6:50 p.m.: Roundtable Session II

  • Civics Across the Curriculum
  • Maryland’s New Department of Service and Civic Innovation and Service Year Options

6:55 - 7:15 p.m.: Governor’s Youth Service Award Ceremony
7:20 - 7:30 p.m.: Closing Remarks
