McNair Conference

The UMD School of Public Policy co-sponsored the 20th Annual University of Maryland National Conference for McNair Scholars and Undergraduate Research, March 14-17, in College Park, Md. In addition to co-sponsoring the conference, the SPP Career Services team engaged with students on the importance of a public policy degree.

Named in honor of Ronald E. McNair, a laser physicist and Challenger space shuttle astronaut, the Ronald E. McNair Post-Baccalaureate Achievement Program aims to increase the number of non-traditional and underrepresented students who enroll in graduate school to pursue doctoral degrees.

The conference serves as a way to encourage students to continue their higher education and earn graduate degrees, while also providing them with the resources and tools they need to succeed. The panels and workshops ranged in topics from how to get research published, GRE prep, graduate student challenges and accomplishments, strategies for empowerment, funding opportunities and public speaking strategies.
