The Center of Global Sustainability (CGS) at the University of Maryland's School of Public Policy celebrates the achievements of our six graduating researchers and assistants! We thank all our graduates for their valuable contributions to CGS’s mission. We wish each of you success and fulfillment in your future endeavors. Learn more about the graduates and their important contributions to climate research and policy.
Shiqi Chen
Shiqi Chen graduated with a Master's degree in Public Administration from the School of Public Policy. She participated in projects related to methane mitigation, and EV adoption.
Currently, Shiqi remains as a research assistant at CGS, mainly focusing on policy information collection, data analysis, data visualization, and report writing for various research projects on the China Program. In the future, she will continue to focus on the field of sustainability and climate change.
Aboli Dahiwadkar
Aboli Dahiwadkar is an undergraduate at the University of Maryland, completing her Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science and Policy with concentrations in Marine and Coastal Management and Geospatial Data Science. On campus, she was active in the UMD chapter of the American Ecological Engineering Society, serving on its executive board, and volunteered for the Office of Sustainability.
Her previous research focused on microhabitat complexity on eco-engineered seawall tiles at San Francisco State University, inspiring her to continue studying environmental concerns in marine ecosystems. As a research assistant at CGS, Aboli contributed to the Indonesia Program.
Katherine Honig
Katherine Honig completed her Master's degree in Public Policy, having previously attained a Bachelor's degree in Public Policy Analysis from the University of Maryland School of Public Policy.
As a research assistant at the Center for Global Sustainability, Katherine's research examined the impacts of energy transitions in the Maldives. Her research particularly delved into the shifts in gender equity resulting from these transitions. Additionally, she contributed to data collection and analysis efforts for the Indonesia Program team.
Jocelyn Lewis-Johnson
Jocelyn Lewis-Johnson graduated with a Master of Professional Studies- Public Administration degree. At CGS, Jocelyn currently works as a faulty assistant for the Strategic engagement team, working in digital engagement and research.
She is thankful for the opportunity to collaborate with her exceptional team- Shannon and Camryn, in driving forward CGS's pioneering research and active involvement to promote global climate solutions and combat climate change.
Yingtong Li
Yingtong Li graduated from the University of Maryland with a Master’s in Public Administration. As a research assistant for CGS, she helped organize three workshops, conducted data and policy analysis for the China program and helped develop policy briefs, reports, and research papers.
After graduation, Yingtong will continue to work at CGS this summer, before moving on to another position within the climate policy field.
Jonah Pereyra
Jonah Pereyra is graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science and Policy and Atmospheric and Oceanic Studies. During his tenure at CGS, Jonah collaborated with an exceptional team of researchers to tackle some of the most urgent issues confronting our world today. He grasped the sustainability of electric vehicles in developing economies, enriching his research skills and global outlook. Jonah expresses profound gratitude to Dr. Hilde, Dr. Lou, and the entire Indonesia team for their invaluable mentorship over the past year and a half, as well as for the remarkable opportunities they have provided him.
Regarding post-graduation plans, Jonah is thrilled to announce that he will be furthering his education this autumn at the University of Maryland’s Francis King Carey School of Law, where he will focus on environmental law.
Bradley Phelps
Bradley Phelps is set to graduate from the University of Maryland with a Master’s degree in Public Policy, specializing in Environmental and Energy Policy. Bradley began with CGS in the fall of 2022, supporting the USG engagement team and pulling important information from National Determined Contributions for modelers. Working with the Maryland Department of Environment, he supported the Maryland Climate Pathway report, performing health impacts analysis using COBRA, an EPA tool translating emissions changes into health outcomes.
Continuing with the Maryland team, he supported policy attribution efforts as the state wrote its Climate Pollution Reduction Plan. He continues with the Maryland team, supporting various working groups, and aiding with the PV recycling working group report. He is very grateful to Kathleen Kennedy for all the guidance and support and to the CGS team for the opportunities to personally and professionally develop as he worked on incredible projects.
Molly Schreier
Molly Schreier, currently a Research Associate for the Indonesia Team at the Center for Global Sustainability, is graduating with her Master of Science in Geospatial Information Science from the University of Maryland. Her academic pursuits focus on leveraging GIS for investigations into just transitions, renewable energy implementation, and the impacts of climate change. In her earlier years at the University of Maryland, Molly pursued studies in International Relations and Arabic.
Since the Fall of 2022, Molly has been deeply involved with CGS's Indonesia Program, dedicated to compiling a comprehensive dataset covering industrial parks, resource extraction, and captive coal plants within Indonesia. Post-graduation, Molly will transition seamlessly into the role of Post-Master's Research Associate at CGS, maintaining her commitment to advancing sustainable development initiatives.
Annie Zhuang
Annie Zhuang is graduating with a Master of Science in Information Systems. During her time at CGS, Annie concentrated on data cleaning and visualization tasks. This work not only sharpened her analytical skills but also refined her ability to present complex data insights effectively. She expresses gratitude to CGS for providing invaluable professional development opportunities.
As Annie continues her career at CGS, she is also exploring opportunities in government data analytics roles. Her goal is to utilize her skills to serve the public interest and contribute to data-driven decision-making processes.
