CISSM Global Forum: March 26 | Dr. Pavel Podvig | Inside the UN's Efforts to Curb WMDs

Hosting exceptional international policy scholars and practitioners has been a lunchtime tradition at CISSM for over 30 years. Typically held Thursday afternoons from 12-1:15pm during the school year, each CISSM Global Forum features an invited speaker from the greater DC area to speak on a policy-relevant topic of their choice, followed by Q&A with the audience of faculty, staff and students. Speakers may present on their latest policy-relevant research or test out new ideas about forthcoming projects to advance knowledge and practice in their respective fields.

About the Speaker:

Dr. Pavel Podvig is a Senior Researcher at the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR)'s Weapons of Mass Destruction Programme. His current research focuses on nuclear disarmament, arms control and nuclear security. Podvig started his work at the Centre for Arms Control Studies at the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MIPT). He is also a researcher with the Programme on Science and Global Security at Princeton University and a member of the International Panel on Fissile Materials. Podvig runs his own research project on Russian Nuclear Forces. He holds a PhD in Political Science from the Moscow Institute of World Economy and International Relations and a master’s degree in Physics from MIPT, Russia. He speaks English and Russian.

Podvig's areas of expertise include nuclear disarmament, arms control, fissile materials, verification, and nuclear security.
